Capturing the Details with Retinal Photography

Digital retinal photography is a noninvasive diagnostic tool we use during our eye exams to take high-resolution, detailed images of the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels in the back of the eye.

This technology enables us to detect and monitor various eye conditions early, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and more. Early detection helps us treat vision issues early.

Explore Our Imaging Technology

Technology is a significant part of what we do at Coastal Family Eyecare. Dr. Wilder and the rest of the team are always looking for new ways to improve the patient experience. Whether that’s implementing OptiLight by Lumenis for dry eye relief, ortho-k for myopia control for children, or OCT for retinal imaging, we can help.

We aim to make your eye care experience comprehensive and detailed, and our commitment to technology helps us do just that.

OCT

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an advanced imaging technology that produces high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the eye. This noninvasive test uses light waves to produce detailed images of the retina, optic nerve, and other structures in the eye, allowing Dr. Wilder to diagnose and monitor a wide range of eye conditions.

OCT imaging can help our team diagnose and manage eye diseases such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.

Virtual field testing is a diagnostic tool used during eye exams to detect and monitor peripheral vision loss. Through the use of virtual reality technology, patients can undergo visual field testing comfortably and conveniently.

Virtual field testing is a valuable tool for the diagnosis and management of various eye conditions, such as glaucoma.

The iCare tonometer is a diagnostic tool used during our eye exams to measure intraocular pressure (IOP). Unlike other traditional tonometry methods, the iCare tonometer offers quick and easy IOP measurements without the need for anesthesia or puffs of air.

We implement the iCare tonometer into our glaucoma exams.

Medmont topography projects a series of illuminated rings onto the cornea, which are reflected back into the instrument. The computer then generates a topographical map of the cornea, providing eye care professionals with valuable information on corneal shape, curvature, and overall health.

Medmont topography is an essential part of our eye exams, providing diagnoses for conditions like keratoconus, astigmatism, and other corneal irregularities. We also use Medmont topography for our contact lens fittings and myopia management.

Using OCT to Manage AMD

We use optical coherence tomography (OCT) to detect and monitor age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

AMD is a common condition that affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. OCT produces high-resolution images of the retina, allowing us to detect subtle changes in the macula caused by AMD. These changes include the thinning of retinal layers, the presence of fluid or bleeding, and the formation of drusen.

By detecting these changes early, we can develop personalized treatment plans to manage AMD and potentially prevent further vision loss.

Explore Our Lens Technology

Our lens technology includes ortho-k lenses for myopia control and scleral lenses to help patients with issues like dry eye and keratoconus.

We also offer comprehensive contact lens fittings to help our patients get a precise, comfortable, and safe fit for their new contact lenses.

Ortho-k Lenses

Orthokeratology, also known as ortho-k, uses rigid gas-permeable contact lenses that are worn overnight during sleep to mold your child’s cornea and help reduce their dependence on glasses and contact lenses throughout the day.

Ortho-k lenses can be an excellent option for helping your kids manage and slow mild to moderate myopia.

At Coastal Family Eyecare, we offer Paragon CRT lenses to help your children control the progression of myopia and enjoy clear vision.

Scleral contact lenses are larger than traditional contacts and rest on the sclera, or white, of your eyes. These lenses allow for extra space over your cornea’s surface for extra breathability and contain a fluid reservoir between your lens and cornea, which can help relieve dry eyes.

Scleral lenses can be an excellent option if traditional contact lenses aren’t compatible with your eyes due to issues like dry eye and keratoconus.

We carry Zenlens and AccuLens sclerals and offer fittings and lens options for hard-to-fit corneas to help you find a comfortable, compatible lens type for your eyes.

Medmont Topography for Contact Lens Fittings

The Medmont topographer projects a series of illuminated rings, known as a Placido disc, onto the cornea’s surface, which are then reflected back into the instrument. The computer then generates a topographical map of the cornea, providing eye care professionals with valuable information on the shape and curvature of the cornea.

This information is essential in fitting contact lenses that match the power and shape of the cornea, helping us to provide a comfortable fit for our patients.

Explore Our Dry Eye Technology

Dry eye can be challenging to manage and cause symptoms such as blurry vision, irritation, and watery eyes.

Our dry eye technology includes innovative treatment methods like OptiLight by Lumenis and diagnostic tools such as a meibography to get to the root of what’s causing your dry eyes.

OptiLight by Lumenis

OptiLight by Lumenis is a light-based, noninvasive treatment done in the area below the eyes to manage dry eye. The first and only IPL FDA-approved for dry eye management.

The treatment is safe, gentle, and is backed by more than 20 clinical studies.

OptiLight uses precise pulses of light to reduce the inflammation that is typically associated with dry eye disease, improve tear break-up time, and increase meibomian gland functionality.

Learn More About OptiLight

Meibography is an imaging technique used during your dry eye assessment to visualize and analyze the structure and function of the meibomian glands in your eyelids. Meibomian glands are responsible for producing the oily layer of the tear film, which helps keep the eyes moist and comfortable.

Meibographical images can help us diagnose conditions such as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and dry eye syndrome.

InflammaDry is a rapid point-of-care test that can detect elevated levels of an inflammatory marker associated with dry eye disease. InflammaDry is a noninvasive test that requires only a small tear sample and provides results quickly.

We use InflammaDry to understand the underlying cause of your dry eye symptoms and explore your treatment options.

The TearCare system provides targeted heat therapy to treat evaporative dry eye (poor-quality tears). The warmth helps soothe inflammation and melt oils clogged in the meibomian glands (inside the eyelids). Improving oil flow helps restore tear quality, as the oily layer of tears is vital for moisture retention.
