The Staff

Our exceptional, friendly staff is our greatest asset. They are excited about what they do and they care personally about getting the best results for our patients.

Our receptionists will try to accommodate your busy schedule by finding appointments that suit your needs.

Optical Sales Associate

Cheri is our Optical Associate in our Orange Beach office and she is a sunny and warm member of our team. That's why she fosters excellent relationships with all of her patients. Cheri has a love for helping people and takes great satisfaction in personalizing lens designs for each patient she meets. When Cheri is not helping patients, she is exploring beautiful coastal Alabama on her bicycle, setting her crab trap, and chasing sunsets.

Suzy Penton LDO

Optician/ Office Manager

Suzy Penton is our Licensed Dispensing Optician and our office greatly values her 31 years of optical experience. She has been licensed since 1991 so it is safe to say Suzy knows her job. Even better, Suzy loves her job because it proves to be an interesting combination of many fields like Medical, Customer Service, Technology, Sales and even Fashion. Best of all it truly helps her make a difference in people’s lives. Suzy smiles when she says “There is nothing more rewarding than helping improve someone’s vision!” When Suzy isn’t helping our patients see better and look great in their new glasses, she is probably outdoors. She loves watching sports and is a big fan of the Blue Wahoos, FSU Seminoles and her favorite Jacksonville Jaguars.

Optical Technician

Heather, our Optical Associate, has been an enthusiastic part of the team since 2017. She has been working in the optical business since 2007! She brings a decade’s worth of experience to the office and has a passion for designing lenses that give patients their best vision. When she’s not being a “nerd” (as she calls herself) over lens enhancements, Heather is spending time with her children. She loves taking them to the beach. She is an expert, not only in optical, but in homemade spaghetti sauce as well.

Optometric Assistant, Receptionist

Moira has been working at Coastal Family Eyecare since the summer Dr. Leonard opened her first location. She works as a receptionist and optical assistant and handles billing. When not caring directly for patients, she is often in the lab, cutting glasses. Outside of the office, Moira teaches yoga and enjoys tending to her plants.

Jordan is our knowledgeable Technician and scribe. She works closely with patients during their exam performing special testing, coordinating referrals, and handling prescriptions. Jordan takes a diligent focus on the needs of each patient she works with. She has a degree in Forest Resources and Conservation and enjoys spending times outdoors with her friends and family.

Dear Patients,

As of Tuesday evening, March 17th, the CDC has recommended that all routine eye care be deferred until further notice, in order to slow the transmission of COVID-19 through our community.

Please be assured that we are still available to triage all urgent and emergent calls during this challenging time.

We are officially closing our offices effective at 3:00pm today, March 20 th and tentatively plan to reopen on April 1 st . We are rescheduling all routine visits and are available by phone to triage ocular emergencies.

Our phone lines will be open:

Monday the 23 rd and 30 th : 10:00am to 5:00pm

Tuesday-Friday (24 th -27 th and the 31 st ): 9:00am to 3:00pm

What does this mean?

1) If you are scheduled for an annual eye examination we will tentatively reschedule you starting April 1 st

2) If you are running out of a medication please contact us and we can transmit a refill electronically to your pharmacy.

3) If you have an issue which cannot wait for an office visit, contact us and we will schedule a Telephone appointment with one of our doctors. Medicare has temporarily relaxed its telehealth rules to allow this type of communication during the pandemic crisis. Other insurers may follow suit and allow for reimbursement of virtual care costs. The consultation must be initiated at your request.

4) If you have an ocular emergency we are, as always, available to help you at any time. Call 1-850-455-0120 andwait for instructions at the end of the message.

Dr. Leonard or Dr. Charbonneau will discuss your condition by phone and make the best treatment decision for you on a one on one basis.

5) Please remember that 80% of COVID-19 cases are mild and resolve within a week. However, if you feel your symptoms are worsening, call ahead before visiting your doctor’s office or emergency department and tell them you have or may have COVID-19. This will help the office protect themselves and other patients.

The CDC has many wonderful resources. Arming yourself and your family with clear information will help you avoid undue stress. and

Together we will weather this storm.

With sincerest wishes for your continued good health we remain at your service,

Dr. Clare L Leonard

Dr. Mary Charbonneau
